Antagonizine

Rooted North. Inspired Everywhere.

Welcome to Antagonizine – your unapologetic source for raw, rebellious, and refreshing voices from the North and beyond.

We're a zine dedicated to exploring the messy edges of culture, identity, and the stories that don't fit neatly anywhere else. Rooted in the creative communities of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England, we champion the artists, writers, designers, and thinkers shaping culture beyond the capital. Whether it's through art, writing, or design, Antagonizine celebrates the unconventional, the overlooked, and the beautifully complicated.

Our fourth print issue, Live, Laugh, Loved and Judged, explores the contradictions of Y2K girlhood in an age of constant visibility.

From glossy magazines and reality TV to MySpace profiles, paparazzi culture, and the rise of social media, this issue examines how a generation of girls learned to perform under the gaze of everyone else. We revisit the icons, aesthetics, and media that defined the early 2000s while unpacking the pressures of surveillance culture, beauty standards, identity, and the impossible expectation to always be seen—but never take up too much space.

Featuring original essays, photography, illustration, fashion editorials, and creative work from emerging voices across Scotland and the North of England, Live, Laugh, Loved and Judged is a nostalgic yet critical reflection on the era that shaped the internet as we know it today.
